1.It is a profiled branch called "Architecture and Building Constructions", which is focussed mainly on pedagogica process. By means of methods of theoretical and experimental substantiation, it leads the students to create structure wholes, elements, and their details in its proper subjects, as well as in the subject of design. Further on, it implements the educational activity in the subjects of building thermal technology, acoustics, and daylighting.

2. It takes an important part in the education process of new scientific workers in the postgraduate study, in the scientific branch "Theory and Constructions of Building Constructions".

3. The department of Building Constructions is an important scientific-research workplace in Slovakia, well known and acknowledged due to its work results mainly in the field of publishing activities also abroad. Scientific and research activities of the department have been developed from the established experimental basis and are aimed at these problems:

*heat and humidity transfer through walls and roofs of buildings and their joints
*sound transmission in buildings and room acoustics
*theory of daylighting and solar energy of buildings
*air infiltration and driving rain effect on walls and roofs of buildings and their joints
*complex energy effectiveness of buildings
*durability of building materials

4.The department is able to realize experimental testing in the following laboratory facilities:

*large climate chamber for synergistic research of heat transfer, vapor diffusion and air infiltration
*testing equipment for materials durability research
*acoustic chamber for experimental research of airborne sound and impact sound insulation
*large pressure chamber for research of air infiltration
*rain chamber for the research of water penetration through details of walls and roofing's
*solar chamber for the study of window energy balance
*laboratory of building’s under structural physics

5. The department has had a rich collaboration with building companies in the development of new details, elements and systems of civil engineering works, and their experimental physical and technical verification, in diagnosis of failures, and reconstruction of buildings, as well as in the field of designing exigent units of habitation, civic, industrial, and agricultural works.
